Syria and Turkey

TURKEY | Wednesday, 26 November 2008 | Views [913] | Comments [2]

Ok İ am sorry for being a lazy blogger.  İ will try to be better.  İf at any time in this blog you see an ı it is ment to be an i, different key board.  But anywaysö quick recap:

syria was fantastic, after Damascus we went to Palmyra, an huge roman ruin complex that was ıncredable.  Had these really unique tower tombs that İ have never seen any where eles and a castle perched on a sandy hıll above column lined road ways.

Traveled from there to Krak des Chevillers, the best castle ever according to those in the castle business.  İt was never breched and sits in green hilly valleys.  The day we came here marked our official exit from desert and the green was a very welcome sıte!  Explored the castle, its underground passage ways and sat ıin the sun on the walls.  Very fun stop.

Continued on to Aleppo, Syrıa.  very cool old town, nice market great cookies, amazing citadel.  Only bummer was the fact that many of us got some form of sickness around this time, but all recoved within a few days.

Mini bus from Aleppo to Turkey.  Arrived in Antakya on the 16th.  Very cool town set ın mountains but only a quick stop.  instantaniouly you can feel the difference between Turkey and the other countries we have been to.  feels much more western, though the calls to pray still chime out and women and men are still seperate in many places, few women cover there heads and they are seen on the streets at all times of the day!  İn many of the smaller towns we went to you some times did not see the women and never any at night.  İt is a welcome change.

Amazing drive over mountain passes to get to our next destination in Nigde.  The mountains were unbelievable, snow covered and huge; me and megan freaked out a lot, gıddy at the site!  We offically hit fall this day too, leaves were changing, aır was cooler, felt lovely.  İ think. besides friends and family, fall and food are the things i have missed the most.  F things are apperently very important to me.

Spend the next four days in the Cappadocia region of Turkey.  Crazy rock formations everywhere.  İmpossile to describe (İ suggest googling it).  Mushrooms, gnome hats, and other obseen shaped rocks carved out ın the valleys.  See incredable underground cities that go over 150 feet into the ground, chruches carved into the pointy rock pillars with colorful frescos painted on the ceilings, and beautiful aspins and rivers.  A wonderful place, one of my favorites for sure.  Broke away from our İntrepid group while in this area; overall really like traveling with our group, everyone was great. but definitely glad to be on our own now, especially bc turkey is a lot easier to navigate around than Eygpt, Jordan and Syrıa.

Left our base in Goreme and took an over night bus to Antalya on the coast of the Mediterranian (can never spell right sorry).  Time is running out for me online so will finish the last three days up shortly (İ promise).

Love you all, getting excited already for coming home and seeing everyone!  Happy birthday Jeff and happy happy thanksgiving to everyone, eat so many yams and stuffing for me!!!!!
