    These little squatters where found in an abandoned Ottoman mansion in the backstreets of Kadikoy. Their anxiety and displacement, represent the condition of Istanbul’s failure to gloss the loss of the Ottoman Empire with modernity and westernisation. Views[197] This cat and his family lived at the foot of my apartment building. I watched him grow from a timid kitten to a little explorer. The look on his face in this photograph is of pure melancholy - pure Istanbul. Views[152] The Cats of Istanbul have grown to be part of the city and her iconic skyline. At the rise and fall of the sun each day, dozens of these beautiful creatures emerge from the shore rocks of Asian Istanbul’s Kadikoy. Views[192] A crafty carpet salesman on the lookout for his next ‘pigeon’ just outside the Grand Bazaar. Views[271] Mother-to-be resting under the protection of the lucky eye at the Grand Bazaar. Her human companion, a long-time resident of the Bazaar, also keeps a watchful eye on her and half a dozen of her friends. He spends his days slumped in his chair, throwing food and chatting to them. With more on the way, he hopes that sales of his Turkish merchandise will pick up. Views[237]
