My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Egypt | Monday, January 14, 2013 | flickr photos

When I hold a camera I am no longer just myself; I become an observer, a storyteller.

I am driven by a desire for knowledge and understanding. Photography allows me to view the world differently and with a constant eye for detail. It allows me to not just look at a place, but “see” it – see the people, the light, the buildings, the hands, the faces, the atmosphere. This helps me to better understand what I’m looking at and where I am. The camera lets me capture this detail so I can share what I see, share my view, in hopes that it will help other people to understand as well. At most, I hope to inspire people with my images – inspire them to go and help others, go and travel, or perhaps to pick up a camera and capture the world themselves.

Having the opportunity to go on assignment with a professional photographer would be an incredible experience. It would give me the chance to learn more about photography to be able to tell the stories I see and help me to share it with others, and help me to delve deeper into the world of travel photography and live my dream of becoming a travel photographer.
