Promoting Peace through Pictures

Photos are peace for me, a strong tool to advocate and promote peace. My dream is to institutionalize a photographic campaign called “Promoting Peace through Pictures”, which not only advocates and promotes peace but also raises funds to educate children impacted by the conflict.

I am a novice photographer belonging to land of mountains, Nepal. I am doing my Masters in International Peace Studies at United Nations Mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. I have had no training in photography and thus am unaware of technical aspects of photography.

I haven’t made a single penny out of my pictures but my pictures have made few thousand dollars. I was a part of a team that organized a fund raising exhibition in Sydney titled “Photos for Peace”. My pictures played a major role in raising 7000 AUD that was donated to a peace-building organization in Nepal.

These photos are the results of my peace building work in Nepal. These are dichotomous pictures. The story beyond the pictures is not as beautiful as the picture is. What interests me in these pictures is their ability to appear beautiful in the camera hiding their tyrannies. As a photographer, I aim on giving a message of peace through my pictures. I believe, every picture in the world gives the message of peace. While some pictures provide a peace of mind than some picture urge for peace.

I wish one day I can educate every single child of the world through photos. I have a dream and this is my dream.This scholarship will not only provide me with hands on experience but also play a huge role in making my dreams come true.
