My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

USA | Sunday, June 30, 2013 | 5 photos

My name is Mohamed Taher. I experienced an aerophobia for 26 years. Two years ago, I decided to fly and I’m proud to say that my love for photography made me defeat my fear of flying. I was lucky to receive a fellowship to study film and photography in the U.S. So, my first flight was about flying to a new life that satisfies my ambitions and goals.

When I was nine I had the first opportunity to use my father’s 35mm film camera after his death. I loved the idea of taking a picture and telling a story behind it. My mom extended this love six years later by bringing me my first point and shoot digital camera before she died later that year.

In 2 years, I took a lot of photographs in the U.S. Visiting over 60 cities in 17 states helped me to gain much experience about the American culture, geography, and history. I envision my career path for documentary photography; I’ll contribute to my community by exploring and presenting stories from around the world.

I hope to gain field experience working with Nat-Geo. It would be a turning point in my career and I believe that I would be accepted in your opportunity because of my hardwork, ambition and eagerness to learn in photography.
