Once Upon a Time in London

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos

When I was a freshman in college, I told my parents that I wanted to study abroad in London during my junior year. Their only response was, "Well I guess you better start saving up!" They did not think that I would stand true to my statement and that in a few weeks or months, I would not be so adamant about my decision. However, that is where they were wrong. I saved up for two years, and all of my hard work paid off (no pun intended) when I stepped off of the plane and onto English soil for the first time. I had never been out of the country before, and I had come so far. I realized that my semester in London would be different than any I had experienced before, but I did not know how much of an impact it would actually have. While in London, I was inspired by so many things. Studying Photography in one of the most historical cities in the world really affects a person. People ask me if I changed, and I respond that I simply grew up. I found my inner self and what it is that I am passionate about. I returned to America having traveled to fourteen cities in seven different countries and with a longing to be back in London. I graduate in May and hope to travel the world to see what else is left waiting for me to discover. If I were chosen to practice Photography with a professional in South Africa, I would be forever grateful. I am a very passionate and determined student who is usually hindered by money. However, I know for a fact now that if I really want something, nothing can stop me. My fate is in my own hands, and the feeling of earning something you have wanted for so long because you deserve it is worth all of the time and effort. It is important to continue setting goals in one's life and to always strive for something you are passionate about.
