Melanie is a news and politics correspondent at Bustle and a nonprofit social media and blog editor. She has written extensively for multiple websites, including HelloGiggles, Cinefilles, and the independent publisher Quirk Books. Her work has been featured on xoJane, Opposing Views, Disability.gov, and Paper Droids. In 2015, she was invited to report on the No Ceilings initiative through the Clinton Foundation.
Melanie has a background in Middle Eastern studies and Journalism from Brigham Young University and has worked on several state and national political campaigns, including the 2008 Senate run-off election in Georgia. In 2010, she traveled to Amman, Jordan where she studied the local culture and language for a short time.
Melanie is the founder and editor-in-chief at Cake & Poison (a news and entertainment website), a former ballet dancer, and a published poet. She enjoys traveling the globe and has a passion for physics and astronomy. She has finally come to terms with Pluto’s 2006 planetary demotion and hopes to one day become a professional dog-petter.
