My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

My name is Fee and I'm a teacher in a Remote Community in the Pilbara area of Western Australia. I have only done high school photography but have always loved taking photos and being up here in this environment with so much space and colour has inspired me to take hundreds of them! I am certainly an amateur and am entering for a few reasons: to share, to have chance to learn more about how to get a fantastic shot from a fantastic photographer, and Bhutan is a place I've always wanted to see (and was actually looking into just as this competition came up!). I studied Journalism at uni way back, and always wanted to work for National Geographic, so this competition has a lot of elements that resonated with me.
All the photos have been taken on a Canon PowerShot SX20 IS. They have not been touched up in any way, they are what they are - for better or worse. I have used programs such as Dynamic Photo HDR to play with other photos, and I have recently acquired a Diana F+ lomography camera. I would like to learn how to use the features of my camera and find different perspectives on everyday subjects.
I am a visitor in this Community, which is situated on a cattle station, right on the Yule River. The people are beautiful, however, I chose some of the landscape to show the beauty, dryness, life and colour of where I am at this point in my journey.
The cow and I were both out walking early one morning, the stock yards have been used during mustering times, many of the windmills on the station were damaged during a big cyclone, the dried up tree is in a place were water should be and the sunsets are always beautiful colours. I am lucky my house backs onto the bush and I get to watch them every night.
Thankyou for the opportunity. Good luck to everyone. :-)
