Thousands of years of human survival in forest, cave, desert etc. they used the natural sources like plants and animals as food. This knowledge has been acclaimed from ancient time. Foods have profoundly influenced the culture & civilization of human from prehistoric period. The Roman emperor Tiberius used to eat a cucumber like vegetable daily. To serve it daily as a meal, the gardener used a method from which the concept of modern green house was established. From the ancient Puthipatra & manuscript of China, it is evident that rice, wheat, kaun, quarter and soybean have got tremendous effect on Chinese culture.
The culture and tradition of Bangladesh are distinguishable by food. As a cultural identity the traditional Bangla foods are rice, fish, meat, dal, smash potato etc. As a part of tradition different cultural festivals, ceremonies, religious functions are detectable
through food. ‘Pahela Baishakh’ the 1st day of Bangla academic calendar is easily differentiated by food as at this day people are habituated to eat smashed rice (‘panta bhat’) and fry hilsha fish. ‘Chitra Sangcranti’ another cultural festive of Bangladeshi is represented by different food items such as cakes, basmati rice and fishes. In addition different seasons of Bangladesh are welcomed by the ceremony of cakes made of different ingredients. The two main religious festivals of Bangladeshi people are also celebrated by different foods like ‘semai’, ‘payse’, ‘jarda’, ‘polao-khorma’ etc. The lifestyle of Bangladeshi people can be demarcated by the foods. Peoples in rural area used to eat rice, curry of fish and dal whereas advanced peoples are accustomed to eat a wide range of diversified foods including various fast foods and drinks. The lifestyle of aboriginal people is categorized through foods as they used to consume native or wild foods and habituated to drink made by own. So, foods play a pivotal and evolutionary role to take in a culture extensively.
