The shorter looked to the taller, and with an unspoken agreement a small hand reached out, conferring upon the two travelers a gift of the green sweetness within its grasp.

In Xinjiang China, a land as far east as it is west, two girls went for a walk through a valley lined with green. Brilliant emerald rows spliced through the red and tan sand that baked under the sun. Suddenly, out of the lines of green emerged two pairs of black, luminous, eyes carrying with them a plate full of the sweet sugar that dropped from the vines.

Two days later, the same traveling girls returned to the valley of emeralds. The older of the two paused for a moment to capture the beaming yellow crown adorning the cobalt entrance of a local dwelling residence.
