My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos
I appreciate nature, miraculous works by God. And so is why I started photographing. Bits by bits I want to capture things I see and thus to share with others what the creator had wonderfully made. City breaks are my favorite. Every time I wander around city streets, I try to look into people’s life and capture it through my camera.
Being able to communicate with pictures is my goal to accomplish. I am always interested in how photographers set themes to challenge themselves and how they actually let the pictures speak. Twice in my life time I visited Cambodia and several orphanages there. With a handful of photos back home, I figured that photos can actually connect people together.
Every day we hustle from one place to another without knowing what is happening around them. Virginia Woolf, a British author, said, “Nothing has really happened until it has been described”. Therefore, photography to me is the doorbell that draws attention to people to walk out from their doorsteps. After all, I want to be the one who rings the bell. To let the unheard of being heard.
I believe being chosen for the scholarship will not only give me a life-time experience in travel but also in acquiring photography techniques that benefit my life and undoubtedly offers me a glimpse how Jason as a professional photographer works. I am a young adult. Physical healthiness would not be a problem. Passionate yet sometimes lack of confidence in speaking out by my photographs. Having a mentor will surly become a turning point to my photography path. Lying lots of unknowns ahead, I am not afraid of taking challenges. I know I need to learn and get equipped. I really cherish this opportunity.
