"How The Green One hopefully takes me to The Sad One and the Romantic One"

„The first time I saw The Green One“

There it was - at first glance, just a rustic mesh-up of green and red on a perfectly baked dough.
Absolutely famished, I digged in, and then suddenly stopped as the first bite of garlic-marinated zucchini fused with feta-cheese inside my mouth. I guess I had some strange look on my face because Nikola kept asking me „What is it? Are you okay? Is it THAT good?“, but I was fixedly waving hands towards the direction the waitress could go, ignoring his questions.
„I´m sorry, waitress…! Waitress!“
She came quickly and probably thought something was wrong because I was so unsettled in my quest to get her attention.
„What is THIS?“ and „WHO invented this?“ were my instant questions and she laughed out so loud that it gave out the feeling she wasn?t going through this explanation process for the first time.
„Oh, it is my recipe…“, she proudly raised her eyebrow glowing with relaxed pride. „I´ve invented it because, really, I had nothing to eat here while working, at least nothing I really liked; I´m a vegetarian, and the usuall vegetarian pizzas were so boring to me…“
There she stood in front of me - the humble Godess that invented this piece of most simple and extravagant meal.
„I marinate the zucchini myself, I hold them over night in my own olive oil and garlic mixture…I also grow arugula in my garden so I bring it here and it goes on the pizza fresh as it could be. The pizza turned out to be so full of the green stuff we simply called it The Green One.“
There I was, sitting by the road in some obscure architectural mistake called „Venice“ (and I wasn`t really in Italy), that I wouldn´t even look at if I wasn´t so desperately hungry. Inside, to my surprise, I discovered the very best hidden secret of The Kvarner Riviera – miss Ivana with her homemeade tomato sauce and that divine combination of zucchini, arugula and Feta.
In this quiet evening the whole Riviera was painted in pink, as the sun spilled it´s energy somewhere behind blue hills while disappearing, as the Adriatic sea silently welcomed the night.
We sat on our motorcycle ready to get going and all I could think of was the fact that now I have the answer to a question that, until now, always just left me wondering – „What would be your last meal, Mima?“;
Yes, people, It is really THAT good.
