Traveling along the Silk Route

Dena goes home

CHINA | Saturday, 19 July 2008 | Views [232] | Comments [1]

Time to get focused; Dena (my girlfriend) has just left China heading back to England. Dena has been here for a year now teaching English at Dalian medical university. All the week leading up to this moment I have been feeling really sad and dreading saying goodbye, I have cried so many times and now while writing this my eyes are still watery and the lump in my throat feels like a heavy burden. Waving Dena off from the front of Down town backpackers – Beijing (Nan lou gu xiang, huton) was really sad, but I feel really happy for Dena as she will be with her friends and family again and that makes the sadness less painful.

Today will be the start of my journey its now 06.40 hrs, at 13.50 hrs I will fly to the ancient capital of Xi’an in Shaanxi province, the start of the Silk route. At the moment I am not sure what to expect, I have read so much about the place and seen it through the eyes of the photographers who have been there before me, but now its my turn to see it through my eyes. I will not be doing this for any glossy publication, nor will I have to conform to any travel agencies set agenda to photograph it in a way that can sell holidays. I will be doing this as an independent so I hope I can show China and the modern Silk route as it is today.

Hi,

I was researching teaching English at Dalian Medical University and came upon your site. I have been contacted about teaching English there and just wondered if I could contact Dena and ask her about her experience at Dalian Medical University?

Thank you.
