My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

A mountain house is on alttitude of a 1000 m and the highest peak of Croatian is on 1831 m. Hiking from mountain lodge to the top and back, and collecting biological data at different alttitudes for Herpetological section lasted for 6h. Dinara is the karst area and the climbing and descent was quite tricky because the rocks in some parts quite loose and break easily. So we had to be very careful where you step and which rocks to catch.

Weather on Dinara montain is very changeable. So we have in one day experienced thunder storm, sun and storm winds. Biology NGO - BIUS is organized in sections. Each section deals with research of particular groups of organisms. So we have a section for spiders, beetles, reptiles, plants, fungi mammals, birds, etc. Every day sections go to different sites in the area we are reserching. To the peak of Croatia I was going with Herpetological section.

At altitude of 1600 m terrain becomes a bit easier, so we have the time for take photos of the landscape. On the way back we met colleagues from the botanical section that were headed to the top. But later we found out that they did not reached the top but only up to 1750 m because there was a storm. Herpetological section on Dinara among other herpetological fauna, was looking for Croatian poisonous snakes: Vipera berus, V. and V. ammodites ursinii. That day we found only V. ursinii.
