My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Philippines | Friday, October 15, 2010 | 5 photos

This was taken around 2 years ago, in a market near a pier in m province in Matnog, Sorsogon, Philippines. It was late in the afternoon and the market vendors as well as passenger from the ship that docked from another island are going home to the barrios of the town. The vehicle is what we call the "Jeepney." Although overloading is prohibited in metros in the country, the jeepney is packed with people and goods in the countryside leaving no space wasted, even occupying the roof go the vehicle. I have tried it once or twice to ride on top of the jeepney up in the mountain province (up north of the Philippines) where there is only dirt road and it is bounded by the mountain in one side and a cliff on the other. The feeling was that of a thrill and at the same time freedom to experience things that most of us does not in our everyday lives.

I do love photography and travel. However, i don't have the luxury of cash to travel. I love trekking into mountains, doing dragon boat rowing, use to do wall climbing and surfing. I am a person who loves to be challenged.

I believe that while there are better photographers out there than me, I would learn a lot from this scholarship and fulfill a dream to be with a National geographic photographer and have a photo published by NatGeo.

I was watching the top 10 photos of 2009 (the replay) recently under the program of photography month, and when i saw the photographs and how the photographers got to take, them, i said to myself, this is what i want to do. i felt goosebumps with each of the images and the stories it coveys.

So, by submitting this photo, i take my chance to be selected or even just to get a response or comment about the photo i took. Thank you for the opportunity and please please don't stop.
