The cool shade under the Munhacha tree.
I was surprised at how suddenly I felt at ease. My mind and body where in unison experiencing stillness, relaxation and peace all at once. The view was filled with the luxurious summer vegetation, vast lands which had been ploughed and a clear blue sky. As I enjoyed the moment I lifted my head and then it struck me that there was more to the experience than what met the eye. I realised that I was standing below a huge Munhacha tree which had huge branches spanning wide in all directions. The tree had healthy green leaves which reflected the sun’s rays as it scorched relentlessly on the bare earth. But how did I end up encountering such a place that has since been where some of my favourite experiences have occurred?
It has always been tradition that once a year during the Christmas festive season my mom’s family and relatives always tread back from the city to the countryside. Whilst I am there l have always loved taking a walk to the fields. I always take it as an opportunity to get some me time whilst enjoying a breath of fresh air unlike the polluted air in the city. Whilst I was there captivated at the sight of ploughed land and I suddenly felt myself sweating from the heat of the scorching sun. I then took refuge under a tree.
As the heat wave passed through this spot it mysteriously generated into a cool breeze which was a joy to feel on the skin considering the temperatures of the surrounding environment. What made it more special was that the Munhacha tree was strategically positioned to give a beautiful view of the fields and places yonder if you were to be standing under its shade. It was a striking realisation that I was caught up in the moment and gazed with awe for some time at the beautiful landscape in front of me. I felt a sudden assurance about life and this gave me hope that whatever happens in life good or bad it is meant to be enjoyed. The beauty of nature around me seemed to be tangible proof that there is no pressure in life. I vowed to myself that this would always be my preferred destination whenever I went to the fields as if it were a place of pilgrimage where I would come to worship under the Munhacha tree. I then realised that it was way past noon and I had missed my lunch. Suddenly I felt hungry and I gave the tree what seemed like a pat on its bark. This seemed like a special way to say goodbye and I headed back to the village.
