Motherland Lesotho

LESOTHO | Friday, 30 May 2014 | Views [180]

Coming from a family that is from two different African countries none of which being the one i reside in meant that i was on the road a lot. Going to weddings, funerals and family reunions and also to visit family. My grandmother comes from Lesotho. The Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho is probably my favourite place in Africa.

I felt i should write this story as i am planning a winter road trip for my birthday to Lesotho. The excitement of shivering and most probably getting a cold from harsh winter conditions Lesotho experiences ishard to contain. The last winter trip to Lesotho was in July 2012 with my mother. I had packed what i considered my "Winter gear" and was in shock when i had to purchase a huge ski jacket to help with the severe cold. I went on a mini mountain hike with my cousins and the trek up down the mountain was thrilling. The best part about the hike was being at the top and looking down at the city, Maseru. Seeing the national stadium and the lights and the activity down there was a wonderful experience. The sunset was also AMAZING!!

I feel that being a Motswana with roots in Lesotho is somehow a "cool" thing if i may, i get to be part of the different yet similar cultures. Although starting school in 2000 with my Sotho dialect and getting laughed at for my "Weird setswana" wasnt really cool. I am looking frward to my trip and i hope to upload as many pictures of the Mountain Kingdom as i can. I hope i experience snow and can even go skiing.
