Inspiration: Life has many moments, many events that affect and change us in a way
that we rarely expect. The experiences that can have the greatest impact on our
lives can often be as simple as the house you choose to make your home.
After a year of living at
84 Sunrise Boulevard, Byron Bay, I wanted to create a film as a record, a
testament to those people whom have lived here and the memories they have
shared.
Planning: A questionnaire was written, as well as conducting a visual observation
of the natural lighting, colourscapes and other visual qualities that certain
locations offered.
Challenges: One of the interviewees was permanently departing the country two days
after the commencement of this project. I had to use appropriate time
management to get the coverage I needed for both the interview and B roll. A
technical issue I faced was having to colour grade, to combine newly shot
footage with older footage that had been shot on a different camera.
Goals: My documentaries shall not
just tell a story. It is the story within the story, the underlying, emotional
connection that the audience gains through my films. That’s what’s important to
me.
