My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My passion for photography started with my passion for music. I love going to live gigs and enjoy the atmosphere, so I decided to try capture that atmosphere and energy on film, and it has all escalated from there. I learned all that I know about photography in my spare time, teaching myself. However, I've always wanted to have the opportunity to learn from someone who is an expert in the field, so I would really love to win this competition to do just that!

I love exploring different cultures, and I feel driven to capture different perspectives and unseen moments to effectively communicate what makes certain cultures unique. I had a great opportunity to do this when I spent a year living in Xinjiang, China. Very few of my friends knew anything about this area before I left. So to help explain and illustrate what life was like where I was living I took photos to show people back home what day-to-day life was like, and what made that area different from other parts of China. Another reason I'd love to have this opportunity to work with Jason is because I feel there is so much more I can learn about finding and capturing a unique view of a place and culture.
