My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
New Zealand | Saturday, November 5, 2011 | 5 photos
After hours of careful sorting through photos I choose these 5. I feel they convey the story well of a primitive and simple lifestyle of that on the West Coast of the North Island, New Zealand. The somewhat forgotten regions of the country which so many over look. Majority of these small coastal townships have no shops, or only a small dairy. It makes for a peaceful, simple and somewhat desirable lifestyle or getaway for the city-dwelling Kiwi. The locals there treasure their secluded lifestyle which has not become tainted by the fast developing city life. The children there will often be seen jumping off the wharf no matter how cold the weather is - kids that don't spend their days indoors watching TV. The well appreciated natural resources there are ever-flourishing. Weather it be surfcasting off the rocks for a Kawai, or whitebaiting with a net for whitebait fritters for the family dinner that night. Its a lifestyle to be envious of.
I've always been the artistic one in my classes since a very young age. I left school last year and have worked full time since, saving until I had enough to upgrade my entry-level DLSR to a Nikon D7000. I was initially going to travel to Spain next year with the saved money, but logic told me I should invest in a decent camera before then, I wouldn't ever want to travel without a good camera! I still have a lot to learn, but I am willing to learn. Whenever I get the chance I am reading/studying about photography, One can never stop learning. An opportunity such as this scholarship would be a dream come true as one day I would like to say being a photographer is my full time job.
