My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

My story takes place in the slums of Cairo, Egypt in a small part referred to as “Garbage City.” Partnering with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity for two days, I encountered a fresh dose of reality that has forever changed my life. I’m magnetized to unfamiliar places like this, it’s where my heart beats the hardest. My adventurous spirit begs for more! I know there are many more unique places in this world to explore, and Bhutan would be an ideal place for me to continue in this quest. I want to see life documented not only in the way I see it in my head, but in a way that tells a riveting story to the viewing public. I see photography as my chance to make a difference, to cultivate change and bring awareness in a raw and artistic way. I never want to take life for granted, which is why I try to keep my images as simple, real, and positive as possible.
I would ask to be chosen because these are situations I thrive in and love to document. My goal is to push the scope of my experience for adventure and passion, while living creatively, and organically as possible. I aim to capture the moment, vision, experience and emotion into poetic, provoking, intriguing, and beautiful images. Life is a learning process, a mystery to be enjoyed. The journey has begun, and it is my hope in winning this contest to gain the necessary experience and valuable life lessons about what it takes to lead a career in capturing the world in photography. “Take only pictures, leave only footprints.”
