My Scholarship entry - A local encounter that changed my life

It was our first trip abroad. We knew each other for 3 months. Within this time we had lived through moving in together, however it wasn’t enough to become a strong couple! We set out to Egypt! One day of our journey we decided to spend in Cairo. We were about to see the Red Pyramid and the Pyramid of Djoser. We had found a local guide, Mohammed! He met us at the airport…to be honest that day me and my boyfriend were not “us”,we were like “that guy and me”.Evening before we had a quarrel. So then, we were just following our agenda, not talking to each other and pretending we were just two single persons.By the way, the attendance of our guide–Mohammed was not cheap–1000$ for one day! Poor Egyptian guy didn’t understand who those persons were. More than likely, he thought we were just two guys who chipped in together to pay him.We didn’t talk to each other, we didn’t even ask him to make our picture. Finally, the guide suggested us that we should take a joint picture next to one of the pyramids. We agreed.Put on a mask of happy tourists in love.Since, he guessed that we were angry at each other. We didn’t imagine that at the time Mohammed determined to make peace!
The place,he chose for his “peacekeeping operation”, was a little bit odd.But not without a romanticism! We studied that life lesson among pieces of papyrus and coffins of the Egyptian Museum. Mohammed stalked to me and asked if I was sad.I agreed. He asked the reason.I answered, that it was the quarrel with my boyfriend. He asked me to translate our talk to my boyfriend as he didn’t understand English. Mohammed asked me to tell him all the details of our row.We did it.Finally, our guide gave a lecture about relations of men and women. At last he added that if we want to come through this with flying colors, we should kiss each other and remember his tips.Five years have passed since that story, we still together, still remember our Egyptian guide while looking at our exclusive joint picture in front of the Red Pyramid.
