As a fourth year International Relations and Environmental Studies double major and Multimedia Arts minor at Tufts University, I am intensely dedicated to international environmental issues. I have focused my formal education on wildlife conservation and economic development, but have always had a passion for photography. I feel strongly that photography can have a real influence on important world issues, and that in order to effectively capture a story, one must know the background behind it. I hope to become a photographer for National Geographic, and to cover wildlife conservation issues in an artistic, informed and effective manner.

The opportunity to travel to South Africa and work alongside Jason Edwards would be an unbelievably valuable and exciting one for me. I spent three months last spring studying wildlife conservation in Kenya and Tanzania, and spent much time photographing the wildlife there. I also interned with the natural history unit of National Geographic Television over the summer, and learned much about how to frame a story and compose images of wildlife (skills that I believe can be transferred to photography). While both of these unique experiences were rewarding and informative, I feel that I still have much to learn about wildlife photography and that I could benefit greatly from the guidance of a professional photographer with a critical eye to help me hone my photographic skills.

In conclusion, I have a passion for international travel and wildlife conservation, and I am deeply dedicated to the pursuit of a career in wildlife photography. I cannot imagine a more valuable experience than to spend time with and receive guidance from someone working in this exciting field.
