Mexico
Mexico | Saturday, October 16, 2010 | 5 photos
These are photos that I took during a year that I spent living in Mexico. The longer I stayed there the more I saw that the country was not the stereotypical image I had always seen in photos. While there are a lot of cacti and bright colours in Mexico, the Mexican story is much deeper. I wanted to capture some of how I saw everyday Mexican life to be. One of the things that struck me most about Mexican people is how content they are with the lives they have been dealt. They are proud people with traditions and a strong culture with many stories to tell. I hope that these photos provide a somewhat more intimate perspective on the country than the stereotypical images.
These photos were all taken on film and most were cross-processed.
I would love the opportunity to learn more about photography and to be able to tell visual stories. I have a background in design and am now studying journalism. Photojournalism is an area that I feel is a powerful way to tell stories and to make a difference. A travel scholarship and photography mentor/teacher would be the most amazing experience. It would help me get closer to my dream of one day becoming a photojournalist. I think photos have the power to bless us and to tell us important stories in a way that we can engage with. They are emotive. I would love to be able to contribute to the artistic storytelling of the world.
