My Scholarship entry - The Wild Bones Project

USA | Saturday, November 22, 2014 | 5 photos

My name is Meranda Carter and I strive to document this nomadic lifestyle I'm choosing to live. I currently explore Alaska and have been here for two years. I work for REI and have started a project called The Wild Bones Project. It's something that has become my life developing and it's aimed to have an audience of armchair surfers and tough mountaineers alike- with a focus on adventure and creative travel. I went to photo school then graduated into the big world trying to find my shooting style. I've always been obsessed with photojournalism and have often dreamed of war photography. Something about getting to that place and documenting the truth really strikes me as a worthwhile task. I would love to be chosen because at the age of 22 I've had a few opportunities to shoot in the industry for magazines; however, I can't seem to break into the work that I really want to and I feel an opportunity like this could really catapult me into the right position to gain traction when cold calling magazines. Plus, this is just an overall dream for me to learn from someone that has done so much and I hope that doesn't sound corny.
