My name is Sarah Valentini, I am 21 years old and currently studying Building Design and Technology at Holmesglen TAFE in Melbourne, Australia. I am hoping to be awarded this scholarship so that I can not only have an incredible opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills in photography but also to experience another culture up close.
Throughout my course, I have to come realize that my favourite part of my projects is when I get to photograph and document the changes in a building site. I love capturing the changes, and watching the stories unfold.
I have always had a deep connection with the arts, as when I was younger I found it hard to express myself through the written word. As such, visual mediums like photography became vital for my communication. I love to draw and paint, however, photography and the versatility of the lens is what I have always come back to.

Some of my favourite photographers are: Bill Henson, his work although controversial at times is highly emotive and daring, and Dan Himbrechtsanda, an action sports photographer. One of my other passions is extreme sports such as snowboarding and his work always makes me crave the snow.
Lare Jade, I’ve followed her work ever since she started out. I could never believe that she was only a few years older than me and yet so talented. Although her work is digitally enhanced, her concepts are so beautiful that you hardly even notice.
These three main photographers inspire me to push the boundaries, and prove to myself that I can always take a better picture. If awarded this scholarship I would endeavour to continue pushing myself, working hard day and night to be the best photographer that I can be.
