My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Australia | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | flickr photos

Hello!
An instinctual gravitation towards the Arts from a young age has led me to study a BA in Photography at University in Melbourne. It has, and continues to be, a thankful outlet for anxiety and depression for me, and a perpetual source of great excitement.

I do prefer the rawness and romanticism of film, although of course I am versatile with my regular use of digital, also. Though the industry is inherently competitive, I feel that my natural eye for composition and hidden moments often unnoticed or disregarded by others, as well as a great love of colour and light gives me a great edge over others.

I hungrily devour the imagery and writings of my photographic idols, including Cartier-Bresson, Helmut Newton, and David LaChapelle, gaining endless insight and inspiration.

Through my exploration of my city and several abroad, I continually develop a skill for capturing candid, quirky, and fascinating moments. Due to the fact that I can wander quite unnoticed, my ‘street’ photography (mostly with black & white 35mm film) has a natural, unpretentious quality to it.

It would be a dream beyond description to be considered for such a prestigious prize!

Thank you, Melanie Desa.
