Breakfast

I think it was about 6.30am this morning, I was so famished I went out determined to eat at the first place open. None open thataway, so went thisaway about 2 blocks. I sat at the back of a Chinese famiy cafe/stall, it was as if I was in their family kitchen. First I asked for my fave, teh tarik, but as yesterday it seems in Melaka they prefer me to ask for 'tea with milk' . I chose from the food selection visible, noodles with a fried egg. Everything written in Chinese so not sure the local name of the type of noodles/sauce. As I ate, observed the family, parents, two teens, Grandma, all with their jobs to do. Chopping vege, washing up beside me, serving, taking orders, taking money. Many people came in for takeaway noodle soup - a big vat split in half at the front of the shop, with noodles boiling, then some greens freshly chopped are dipped quickly into the soup stock, just quickly, or maybe its sprouts. Into the bowl a scoop of noodles, the greens, some extras from a variety of containers and a scoop of stock. Yum Alternatively, various choices of meat and vege dishes available to be portioned into a takeaway container, alongside the deep container of rice. These are meals I'm famliar with, but this was the first time I''d seen it put together. Tomorrow I'd go for a rice based combo cos the noodles were too oily for my liking. But hey it cost me $NZ1.oo I had two cups of tea, total $2 the meal. The maps aren't coming up on this version. Also, I can't get into gmail at all. Maybe you can, and tell me if anything new has come from anyone? xxM
