Hi! My name is Meghan Andrews. I’m 20 years old and currently a first year photography student at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, USA. I want to win this competition because of my passion to learn and experience. I have passion bubbling out of my pores for photography. I want to see as much of the world as I possibly can, experience different cultures, meet new people, learn new languages, taste new foods, hear new sounds. I want to share my experiences with others through photography, so that they might learn, see, experience, and become inspired as well. I want to bring unseen images to eyes around the world. I am so incredibly passionate about traveling that I have a tattoo of the world on my right leg because I want to “travel the world until my legs stop working”. I love photography because it can do so incredibly much and virtually everyone can get something out of photography. Photography unites people. I know I have a lot to learn about photography and the world. But I am jumping out my skin to learn as much as I can in my lifetime. People ask me what specifically I want to do with photography, and to be honest, I don’t quite know yet. Right now, all I know for certain is that I want to see the world. That is what I’ve always known. And I know I’ll always carry a camera with me. The pictures I've submitted were taken in Richmond, VA on a 54 acre island called Belle Isle. Here, there is a yearly event called "Slaughterama", which is basically a huge, rough, dirty, drunken party extraordinaire involving bike jousting, LOTS of beer being thrown in the air, chaos, and lots of fun.
