Escape from all inclusive

Following the flock of Canadians escaping the cold I booked my boyfriend and I an all inclusive vacation to Mexico. It was plush, luxurious, comfortable and most importantly boring. After three days of lazing and boozing by the pool we had to bust loose, we needed adventure.
We caught the next shuttle into Playa Del Carmen and the plan was Cozumel or bust. I don't think our shuttle could have dropped us farther from the ferry terminal. Did we take the easy way out and take a cab? Hell no. We hoofed it through winding streets and across expansive beaches, leaving us sweating in places that I never knew was possible. Did we make it in time you ask? You bet your sweet cheeks we did. And after a short hour of glorious air conditioned ferry ride later we arrived at beautiful Cozumel.
We chose Cozumel because we'd heard through the grapevine that their snorkelling was pretty amazing. After securing snorkelling gear and two sweet scooters we were off. We b lined it straight across the middle of the island. Things were looking good until we got about half way. The wind really kicked up and there was a monster of a cloud coming our way. After some debate and rock paper scissoring we decided to head back to town instead of riding into the storm. I have never been happier to lose at rock paper scissors. When the storm caught up with us we were almost back to town and we got absolutely pounded by a wall of heavy rain. We peeled off at the first shelter we could find and squeezed in with an older couple that had also been caught out. Oh boy did these two have some good stories to tell. I couldn't keep track of all the countries that they told us about, but needless to say these two have really seen some stuff. The weather slowed, the sun came out, and we exchanged contact info before venturing out.
We ended up having a fantastic day exploring the many beaches and reefs on the island. Feeling great about our day we headed back to town. Of course as these things go our adventure had one last surprise for us. On the homestretch back to the scooter rental shop my scooter started to wobble. Performing my safest emergency maneuver I pulled over and assessed the damage, a flat tyre. We parked the bike at the safest spot we could find (in front of a Jehovah's Witness temple) and doubled back to the rental place. They were surprisingly cool about it and didn't even charge us extra. We headed back to the resort and celebrated our adventure with some tequila volleyball ARIBA!
