My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Uganda | Saturday, January 5, 2013 | 5 photos

Growing up in the Lucky Country, Australia, I have been snap happy for as long as I can remember.

Throughout my childhood I was capturing memories of my days any way that I could, whether sketching what I saw, painting it or capturing it literally and keeping it in my room; butterflies, lizards, mice and more were often parts of the décor for an afternoon or two before they were released.

I was given my first camera at eight years old and instantly I was addicted, I have photo albums stacked full of moments with nature, friends, family, pets, toys and anything that I felt was worthy of capture. Some of my fondest memories are dropping my film in at the pharmacy and waiting patiently for a whole week to see how my photos turned out.

How times have changed, but I am still just as in love with the art of photography as I was then. I learnt about dark room processing and photography methods in high school, only a year before it was taken over by the digital era. We used to have to really think about the composition, lighting and other factors for that one good shot which is something I really loved about the art.
