so i have finally made it back home. for those of you who have heard my really annoying and frustrating story about getting home, i will spare you here and not re-tell it again. in the athens airport, monica and i made a few top 3 lists in various categories from the experiences on our trip. these lists include the trip from the middle east to greece and i have left out england because i was only there for a few days. here it goes!
top 3 big cities 1.cairo 2.damascus 3.istanbul
top 3 little cities 1.goreme, turkey 2.iznik, turkey 3.kalambaka, greece delphi comes in at a close 4th.
top 3 hikes 1.mt. sinai 2.red and rose valleys (goreme) 3.chimaera (olympos)
top 3 ruins 1.petra 2.olympos 3.delphi valley of the kings, egypt and palmyra, syria come in close too!
top 3 adventures 1.white desert, egypt 2.camel ride in aswan, egypt 3.snorkeling in the red sea
top 3 religious sites 1.meteora, greece 2.aya sofya, istanbul 3.st. katherine's monastery, egypt
top 2 markets (only 2 are really worth being listed) 1.tent maker's city, cairo 2.spice market, damascus
top 3 local encounters 1.making pancakes in aleppo, syria 2.dancing around the fire with the bedouin in the white desert 3.getting a tour of the village outside of iznik, turkey led by an entourage of teenage boys (these were all blogged about if you dont know what im talking about)
top 3 treats 1.sahlep drink, istanbul 2.iznik cinnamon cookies 3.cairo pomegranate juice
3 most played songs 1.my heart will go on, celine dion 2.i kissed a girl, katy perry i think 3.womanizer, britney spears (we all hate these songs now for sure, although we didnt like them to begin with!)
3 most eaten foods 1.bread, bread, bread 2.satsumas (mandarins) 3.laughing cow brand cheese
