My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

National geographic
It took months of begging to receive my camera as a graduation gift. It is now five years later and I use the same outdated camera on a daily basis. My technique needs work, my processing skills need development, but my eye for the perfect shot is spot on.
I enjoy traveling to the outskirts of the traditional tourist trail. I aim to capture the true essence of a location, not the monuments or sites that make it famous. My current goal is to explore the spirit of the people affected by the Darfur and South Sudan crisis.
Wildlife and people photography are my favorite genres. I believe they cross over a great deal, as a good photo from both categories captures The emotion of the subject. It would be an absolute dream to capture the big 5 and the village people on film.
More then anything, I am entering this contest in an attempt to really get my foot in the door of the industry. National Geographic sits in my table at home, begging to be looked at every month. I've long dreamed of being published inside. However, I know I have a long way to go before then. I believe that I would benefit immensely from having the opportunity to work with Jason. I cannot even express the joy that that opportunity would bring. Not to mention the opportunity to learn so much!
I will keep taking the photos that show my viewers the real people behind the countries. I cannot promise that I will be the best photographer or the most experienced. But, I guarantee that you will not find someone who has more passion for capturing the truth, and using it to help those who deserve it the most.
When it comes down to it, I know that am the perfect candidate. I have a great eye, I love to travel, and I make great cookies- what more could you want in a scholarship applicant?
