To Capture a Character

The Voice of Venice

For me, it's always been about story telling. Setting the scene, start, middle, end. The story, if following usual conventions, is focused around a character, the protagonist, our hero. But for me, the story isn't about our wandering lead. It's the characters he meets on his lonesome journeys. I want to develop my stories that breathe life into the scenery. I don't want to describe what I see so people can place themselves there. I want to show them, for them to feel it, like they're on my back travelling with me, like they've met the country I'm in. Like they've spent an hour at a bar talking to the soul of a city, encaptured in it's magic. I want them to leave my story having made a friend with a place. Truly breeding personification, sowing it within my work.

I want places to come alive. And I feel with the right guidance, my eye for a story, and a trusty notepad and lens. I'd be well on my way to helping the world have an adventure of it's own.
