My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Friday, October 15, 2010 | 5 photos

"Mom! I blame you!" Are the only words we hear from my sweaty and grumpy 13 year-old brother as my family climbs the never-ending switchbacks of Zion's infamously steep and narrow Angel's Landing Trail. My parents laughing under their breath at Garrett's incessantly ridiculous comments continue walking. They know despite his complaints he will make it to the top. My brother Blake, photographed in picture 1, and I are sitting waiting for the remainder of the family atop the thin rock peninsula in the heart of Zion's canyon recapping the already humorous moments of our family's road trip. In late August my family, the Webers, notorious for impulsive and spontaneous adventures, decided to embark on a journey to 7 of America's western national parks. Our hike up Angel's landing was only the beginning to this scrambling 12 day road trip. After Zion our next stop was Bryce Canyon National Park, photographed in picture 2, where my family divided on the hike due to a previous arguement, was still able to appreciate the beauty of Bryce's oddly shaped Hoodoos hovering above. In Picture 3 was a quick stop at the Grand Teton National Park where Garrett is jazzed, attempting to explain some fact to the family, although Blake isn't in this picture, he is standing off to the side about to engage in an animated debate with his little brother. In Picture 4, my mom sits soaking in the ever stunning Hidden Lake at Roger's Pass in Glacier National Park. In picture 5, my dad attempting to tie into the scenic backdrop of the continental divide in Glacier National Park strikes a stoic pose, we all laugh knowing it's completely contradictory to his nickname of "Mr. Happy." Glacier marked the end of the Weber's road trip, and although nowhere near perfect, we all returned home with a handful of those family memories you keep for a lifetime.
