My name is Matthew Hickey and I currently study education at university in Australia. I've moved around in terms of career paths as it was hard for me to find something to remain stagnant within, however photography has remained the one constant passion throughout this journey. It's difficult for me to convey what sparks my avid love of photography in such a short space though I suppose it's the ability it provides to escape from the world and to feel emotions. I respect the adage "a picture tells a thousand words" though in truth I believe it does far more, setting forth a flurry of emotions and this is what compels me to always improve. It's the addictive hope that someone will feel something after viewing my images. I'd like to go to every inch of the globe and explore the nether regions where others dare not go. I'd like to fuse my love of photography, writing and exploration into an illustrious career and that is why I believe I should be chosen for this auspicious mentorship. This proverbial "foot in the door opportunity will allow me to understand the real world of travel photography in every aspect and would provide invaluable lessons on myself and my photography.
