My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
New Zealand | Friday, December 21, 2012 | 5 photos
I am sitting in a small Department of Conservation Bivouac in the middle of the Fiordland National Park, New Zealand. I have been here for almost two weeks trying to capture the 'world's most intelligent bird' in the act of doing something that has only been recorded as theory. It seems all my efforts are focused at preventing this alpine parrot from running away with my possessions he deems very interesting. My name is Mat Goodman, a Sustainability student from New Zealand. Due to my passion for adventure and photography I have recently been employed by a German Production company to assist them in capturing the behavioural habits of the world's most intelligent birds, the Kea from New Zealand's Southern Alpine areas and the New Caledonian crow. My position as an assistant was rapidly promoted and I found myself spending two months in New Caledonia in a hide alone filming behavior that I later found had never been filmed before. As well as this I have been recently been sponsored by Mountain Designs to shoot adventure photography of equipment/ clothing. I feel that Photojournalism is where I belong, I thrive when in a position of uncertainty that challenges every aspect of me.
