About marshalchupa
After picking up a camera in his grade ten photography class, Marshal
found his true passion behind the lens. His lunch hours soon became
consumed in the dark room experimenting with chemical baths and
enlargers and he found himself running off the bus after school to chase
the last of the evening light.
The thought of making photography more than just a hobby came to
Marshal one day when shooting photos with some friends. He was asked,
“If you love this so much, why don’t you make it your job?”. Soon after
countless emails were sent out to inspiring photographers that had
become successful in the business and things progressively began to fall
into place.
In October of 2010, and at the age of nineteen, it was after working
part time as a freelance photographer and a summer of forest
firefighting that Marshal’s budget finally allowed him to buy a plane
ticket to Nicaragua. The trip for him and a friend was planned for two
months from Guatemala to Nicaragua, filled with thoughts of good surf
and adventure. Marshal got on that plane alone and it was seven months
and seven countries later that he backpacked though Central America and
into Colombia. He lived simply day by day and on more then one occasion
on the flip of a coin. Sleeping in a hammock became an every night
routine while hitchhiking became the ideal means of transportation.
Marshal came back to Canada with a new perspective on life. The
people he had met and the adventures that had been lived put the real
world into focus. His journey had answered questions he had never even
thought to ask and the bigger picture was unveiled with a sense of
meaning and purpose instilled into his life.
Today, Marshal is working as a freelance photographer back in Canada,
and is starting his diploma in the Professional Photo Imaging Program
in Vancouver, British Colombia.
His goals lie in helping to make a difference in this world through
photography, and his travels throughout Central America were only just
the beginning.
If you asked him what he wanted to do with his life he might respond
with: “I want to use my passion to change the world one step at a time.
Photography is a means of creatively expressing my views and letting
others see our world as I do.”
Marshal is a very open minded and easy going person, up for almost
anything in the spur of the moment. Please don’t hesitate to contact
him, as he is always interested in meeting new people and hearing their
stories and walk of life.
