My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Cambodia | Sunday, December 30, 2012 | 5 photos
My name is Marissa Pattison. I live in a small country town in Far North Queensland, Australia. I graduated from high school a month ago. The photos I have entered in this contest were taken a couple of weeks ago when I went on a school trip to Cambodia. The photos I have chosen showcase what inspired me most about this amazing country: the people. I found Cambodian people so inspiring because they have all lived through incredible hardship and injustice, but they still manage to always smile and be kind. I have always loved photography. My paternal grandfather's main hobby was photography and he taught a love of the art to my father. My father taught me about photography as I was growing up and when my parents first took me for an overseas holiday when I was 11, I learnt that photography and travel go hand in hand. I love using a camera because nothing can capture a moment or a feeling better than a photo. I think I should be chosen for this scholarship because I have a love for travel and photography and most of all, I love to learn. I would cherish the opportunity to observe professional photographers and learn about my potential in photography and where this could take me.
