My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My name is Margaret Gissing, and I strongly feel I deserve this photographic scholarship. I live in Kitchener Ontario, and am studying Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo. I have been taking photos consistently for 3 years and in high school was a dedicated yearbook photographer. I focus in candid, and nature photography. Part of my photographic drive is the thrill of the hunt. I’ve always set out on a shoot or assignment with a set of goals and ideas I wanted to capture. Even when the going gets tough, the feeling of capturing a great image is something that keeps me endlessly motivated. At this time in my photographic experience, I am yearning for an opportunity to really perfect my skills. I want to do exactly what the scholarship describes: get my foot in the door, connect and learn with an established photographer, travel, and work with National Geographic. I would like to start my own part time business, but if I can travel and tell the stories of the world with one of the most rewarding mediums, I would be perfectly ok with that. This scholarship is an opportunity to open that door, and it’s something I’ve been waiting and working for since I started taking photographs.
