Japanese Snow Monkeys in Hell Valley

Japanese Snow Monkey's in Hell Valley Nagano

JAPAN | Tuesday, 17 August 2010 | Views [571]

On a trip to Japan I had the chance to visit the snow monkeys who live in Jigokudani (Hell Valley) located in the mountains in Nagano. After a long walk in the snow covered mountains we finally came to the famous snow monkeys in Jigokudani Yaen-koen (Hell Valley Wild Monkey Park). These snow monkeys are used to being around people and living as if they are humans. There is an outside hot spring that was made just for the monkeys. You get to see the snow monkeys soaking themselves in the hot water while the snow falls on their heads. I got some great shots of this. You can even get into a hot spring with them if you like but we just couldn't bring ourselves to do it. We still enjoyed our time and there was a HEAP of snow everywhere. Just don't look directly into their eyes the monkeys might attack you..I only got a few showing their teeth at me when I got to close but in the majority they were very friendly.
