Homage to Fidel

I am almost 60 years old. Most of my working life was spent in the textile industry creating designs. For the past 12 years l have worked in aged care and one of the highlights has been sharing my trips with the residents; it always amazes me that an hour later the elderly ladies are still listening! Throughout the years, l have traveled to various destinations, either small group or individual travel, usually camping and home-stays. The "high" from each trip usually sustains me until the next one. I have always taken many photographs, and generally been bitterly disappointed with the results as I always miss the moment that I wish to capture. However, before my last trip I bought a digital camera and I was more satisfied with the results because I could take endless shots, replay them immediately and re-shot. For this journal, I have chosen photographs from Cuba / Galapagos to show how I capture landscape, architecture, people, animal and mood. I would like to take photographs that visualize memories like : 1. sitting in a yurt, sipping hot tea, watching the stars and smoke wisps through the chimney opening; while a lone wolf howls in the distance. 2. waking before dawn, walking up the hill and at the top, watching enthralled as hundreds of antlers rise as one from the swaying grasses with the rising of the sun. 3. walking along the Inca Trail and upon reaching Machu Pichu; finding that my companion and myself had the place to ourselves apart from the caretaker. We could easily imagine ourselves transported back to the past. Next day, the site was crammed with tourists, so those precious moments are treasured. If given the opportunity, I would like to take photos that reveal the pristine environment, the sense of isolation and the unspoiled culture that is Bhutan.
