Chal Basanti Chal! My extended holiday around the world

Borobudur, Java

Well i didnt think that anything could rival Angkor Wat but Borobudar is a definate contender. A 5am start meant that i got there as the sun was rising and the crowds were still in bed (thankfully). En route i saw my first live smoking magical volacanoe. How could i forget that i am in the land of volcanoes? Sadly i am not sure what it was called but it looked so mystical as the sun was rising behind it lighting up the encircling clouds with its top was smoking slightly.

Borobudar itself comprises of hundreds of buddah carvings on 4 square levels and several stuppas on 3 circles above the squares. All the stone is made of Lava from the smoking volcanoe when it blew its top many years ago.

Unesco took it apart to reinforce the structure as it was quite wobbly due to various earthquakes. unfortunately, they werent able to put all the blocks back in their orginal positions as they couldnt tell where some went so apparently there are some lava stones off site waiting to be slotted back like a puzzle.

We spent 2 hours here but you could easily spend half a day just looking at the spectaculour scenery surrounding borobudar - some 3/4 volcanoes and jungle. Without the scenery borobudar could still hold its own but its the package that made it for me - just stunning.

got a flight to bali tonight. spending a night in depensar then heading to Ubud next day
