Orphans Orphans, despite their situation, they are full of life

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

South Africa | Saturday, January 12, 2013 | 5 photos

My passion for taking pictures began when I was 8 years old. By the time I finished high school, I was determined to study photography but in Colombia there are no great schools and my mom was sick, making it impossible for me to leave the country. Three years ago my mom passed away and my life changed forever. I left to Africa looking for answers, and I found them. I took a photography course and got involved in community work. Both of these activities, combined with the loss of my mother, made me realize the value of life and the fact that it´s not so much about your circumstances but your perspective. These experiences made me open my eyes and start believing in photography as a way of acquiring perspective, communicating with others and making “meaningful photography”. My dad passed away 6 months ago and my life has turned around once again. These trying times have further reinforced my belief that in life you have to do what you love. I love photography and now more than ever I have the certainty that I want to become a professional. Outdoor photography makes me feel alive and I am eager to show people what I learn, so they can also feel alive. Photography makes my heart feel.
