My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I press the shutter-release so a doorway stays open, calling me to step through and smell, taste, hear a moment passed. When I see my pictures, I want feelings of the people, place, and time of when I looked through the lens to fill and surround me. I squat, lean, bend, and jog to capture not just a picture, but the essence of my environment.

After earning my degree in neuroscience, I decided to discontinue a path towards the medical field. Although I believed to have put a stop to my fascination with memories, a year traveling the world post-college taught me otherwise and introduced me to the art and science of photography. I experimented with light, colors, and subjects to help friends and family back home experience the world as I experienced it, to immerse senses in an unfamiliar place through an image.

I learned of this opportunity with Jason Edwards while researching photography advice. Fusing my passion for adventure and memories, I hope to contribute to the world of travel photography. At this point in my life, when I need more guidance and fulfillment, I feel honored to have the chance to hone my skills at keeping those doorways open at the press of the shutter-release.
