My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I love to explore nature, especially on foot. I love outdoors and am usually out hiking in the mountains of the Maloti. My explorations are accompanied by a strong sense of documentation and story-telling as I write a lot about the places I visit, and do tell others about them.
Photography is a way of recording my experiences and sharing with others. Through photography a lot of memories are kept. I strive to take photos that represent what my eyes see and what I feel inside about a place. If a photo can invoke feelings that I felt when I took the photo, then I consider it a good photo.
There are conditions under which I am still challenged to record what I see and feel, resulting in flat photos that fail to tell the true story. I would like to improve on all these to a level where I no longer worry about technical settings when taking pictures. I always wonder how others do it in those unforgiving weather, yet still be able to produce stunning pictures. Having accepted that one can produce stunning pictures with just about any gear, I am challenged to produce the same level photographs I did produce with my old point and shoot(HP Photosmart) with my DSLR.
