My Scholarship entry - Finding Serenity exploring Mallacoota

Australia | Saturday, November 22, 2014 | 4 photos

If you asked my friends and family about me they’d say I’m usually behind a camera seeing life’s events and scenery through a viewfinder.I started taking photos at the age of 5 when I was given a little plastic 110 film camera, taking that everywhere with me annoying my family with the solid clink of pressing the shutter button and the annoying high pitch winding sound of rolling the film to take the next photo.
I have always looked at photography as a way to see the world through someone else’s eyes. A captured moment in time, whether it be of a person sitting quietly among the chaos of a wedding or a beautiful landscape capturing the sunset, these are moments where someone felt compelled to capture it so that they, or others, can relive that moment.
Winning this scholarship would give me validation in my ability. While my family and friends all tell me that I should be making a career out of my skill, I think I lack confidence in my ability to make it professionally. In saying that though, putting forward my application for this scholarship is me taking my first step towards what I hope is the first of many in an exciting journey of learning and growing with photography.
