My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
China | Thursday, January 3, 2013 | 5 photos
I first became interested in photography while I was working in a photo lab. Every day I would look at other people’s photos and think about how I would change the angle or composition of the photo.
I took my first SLR camera travelling but unfortunately, I had no idea of how to use it, so it remained on auto for most of the trip as I was too scared to experiment with film.
When I returned home and saw the results of the photos I decided I wanted to learn about photography and study it.
After completing a course I got a job with a travel company, which allowed me to combine my two loves, photography and travel. My job role had nothing to do with photography but it allowed me to travel and take photos for myself.
I left my job to travel around Myanmar, Laos and China. As soon as I finished my course I was desperate to travel, now with some knowledge of how to use my camera!
I get an enormous sense of achievement when I feel like I have taken a good photograph of something or someone different to the norm and so my absolute dream job would be a travel photographer, I am passionate about photography but I am also passionate about meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.
