Northern Boreal Walkabout

In late summer of 1981 my father introduced me to a wonderful magical place in northern Saskatchewan. Less than an hour drive north of Prince Albert there is a national park nestled in at the doorstep of the Northern Boreal Forest. A beautiful, lake filled land wrought with the most incredible mixture of deciduous and coniferous trees, bogs and hillsides painted with the local flora and fauna. Home to some of the most revered canadian wildlife. Wolves and fox, bull elk and moose, white tail deer and bear species indigenous to our spectacular country.

Over the next 30 years I have been fortunate enough to return to this park and its way of life each summer, and have also had the privilege to call this magical place my home. This past summer I began to grow my iPhoto library with the use of my Canon Rebel XSI and a series of lenses. My most cherished targets have always been the wild life of this park, and most recently I have developed an affinity towards the rare predatory bird life represented in the northern boreal forest. I am often approached by locals, co workers and friends requesting to accompany me on my next outing as I am widely recognized as being drawn to the wild life of this place. I leave my home in the morning and arrive at bear feeding on the spawning fish, or a trio of falcons hunting along the road side. I have learned a great deal about this national park and understand the roads circumnavigating Lake Waskesiu were partly designed to accommodate the best viewing of the wild life living in these forests. Certain spots hold more opportunity for viewing and capturing the best shots of these creatures.

In conclusion... I am an avid outdoorsman, a truly accomplished camper and a fervent lover and admirer of wild animals. I wont disapoint
