My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Philippines | Monday, October 11, 2010 | 5 photos

Hi I'm Anthony Jacob Cebrero-Karagdag, but you can call me 'Cobbie' and I'm just thirsty for new photography and I've been dreaming of working for National Geographic since my college days.

I started to constantly hold a point and shoot film camera (it might have been a 'kodak' brand) during my high school days capturing more moments than poses and eventually ended up contributing to our yearbook particularly during my senior year.

The decision to capture these moments came to me while I was in grade school. I was always in the library for lunch; skimming to every yearbook I could get my hands on. It dawned on me that the 'moment' photos which each batch had were beautiful. Not necessarily in a technical sense but more of the stories behind it and the people it would unite and gather around just to share stories about one specific photo. To me, that was beautiful and that's why I decided to be responsible for these united communities, gatherings, and story-telling most especially when we grow really old and have kids and have a batch reunion with my photos being part of the slide show.
One can only imagine how much stories every person can share.

Anyway, these photos show the people and things I see along the way every time I walk around the streets of Manila. They are mostly shots I haven't seen taken before because usually they are taken for granted. I wanted to highlight/appreciate the beauty of these people coming from the 'If I'm not from around here, what things would amaze me' perspective. I would even sometimes interview these busy people just to give justice when I tell my story about them. I'm hoping they'd get the attention they deserve but mostly I'm hoping that through these photos there are more stories to be shared among people around the world.
